Orior AI vs Midjourney for a Consistent AI Character
Midjourney makes beautiful images, but can it keep one realistic face for an AI influencer? Character references, video, automation and price compared with Orior.

Midjourney is still the tool many people think of first for AI images. It has a strong eye for light and style. But an AI influencer needs something else: the same believable person in every photo, every week, for months. Here is how Midjourney and Orior compare for that. We checked Midjourney's docs on October 25, 2026.
The short answer
- Pick Midjourney for mood boards, art and one-off images where the style matters more than the face.
- Pick Orior for a realistic character who has to look like the same person in every post, and when you want to make and post content without doing every step by hand.
How each one keeps a face
Midjourney has changed its answer a few times. Character reference (--cref) came with version 6. Omni Reference (--oref) replaced it in version 7. Version 8.2, the default since July 2026, uses the Edit Model, which takes up to 4 reference images.
Midjourney's own docs for the older tools said character reference was not designed for real people or photos, and that Omni Reference could miss small details like freckles. We found no guidance yet on how well the Edit Model holds a real-looking face.
In practice, a Midjourney character is a set of reference images you attach and prompt around each time.
Orior saves the character once, from 1 to 3 photos of a face. You don't attach anything after that, you pick the character by name. Here is Katherine, one of our test characters, in four cities. Each photo was made in a separate request:

The glasses, the hair clip and the face stay the same without a word about them in the prompt.
Realistic phone photos
Midjourney's look is polished. That is great for a poster, and a giveaway on an Instagram feed that should look like it was shot on a phone.
Orior is tuned for phone camera photos: selfies, mirror shots, a coffee in the car. And when you find a shot you like, you can copy it. Upload the photo and Orior gives it back with your character in it, with the same pose, framing and light. Copy a pose explains how.

Video
Midjourney makes video from an image: 5 second clips you can extend to about 21 seconds, at 480p, or 720p on Standard plans and up in Fast mode.
Orior runs Seedance 2.5, Kling 3.0, Kling 3.0 Motion Control, Veo 3, Gemini Omni, Grok Imagine 1.5, MiniMax H3 and Wan 2.6, up to 1080p and on some models 4K. You can start a video from any photo of your character, or copy the moves from a trend clip with Motion Control.
Automation
This is the biggest gap. Midjourney has no official API, and its terms ban automating the service. Third-party wrappers exist, and they put your account at risk.
Orior has a public API and an MCP server. That means you can ask Claude, ChatGPT or Grok for photos of your character in plain words, and the assistant makes them with your Orior account. It can also post them to Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Threads and X once you confirm. Here is the setup.

Which one to pick
Many creators use both. Midjourney for ideas and backgrounds, Orior for the character the audience follows. If you can only keep one for an AI influencer account, keep the one that remembers the face.
